My adorable Baro Dadu
My adorable Baro Dadu
By relation he is my ‘baro dadu’ and instantly it might seem as if I have numerous memories and a fun collection of stories. However, this is only half true in my case. I do have a handful of memories with him and I am more than happy to have them but they only make me yearn for more.
I don’t have any major memories because either I was really young when we met or our communications were very limited, sticking only to greetings, blaming it on my shy personality I had developed. However, these little meetings we had did not stop the wise man to bless me with some of his precious knowledge which will always remain very close to my heart.
One vivid memory I have is when he came to visit us in Delhi for a few days. I was fairly of a tender age back then and he had taught me a few Bangla and English poems in that short span of time. The reason why these are so special to me is not only because they were the first poems I have learnt but also because he thought it was crucial to teach me important yet fun things early in life. That really explains what a great human being he is. He always emphasizes the importance of moral values in life which you don’t necessarily always get from the school books.
I may not have gotten my fair share of moments with him, but that did not stop me from getting to know him and his greatness, granted my baba always discusses little details of his childhood with me and my mother, and baro dadu being a vital part of those stories. From what I have heard of him, he is someone who will not only help you reach your goal but will also always have your back and be there for you when you need him. He can be very strict at times but he is a kind-hearted person and will always wish for your well-being and support you in thick and thin even if it means he has to sacrifice his own comfort.
Unfortunately, I did not get to meet my real paternal grandfather ever, but I'll forever be grateful to Baro dadu for filling up that vacant place I had in my life. I hope that by God’s grace and mercy I will be able to meet him more and make memories to cherish in the near future.
