My memories with Jethu
My memories with Jethu
It is a privilege for me to write about such a person whom I respect the most and who is also the cause behind me being a part of the ‘Sarkar Family’.
The term ‘Jethu’ is very dear to me as I don’t have my own. Jethu not only occupied that vacant space of my life but also made me realize that I have chosen the right family to get married to. Yes, I am his nephew’s, Sukanta’s better half.
Though my marriage had been fixed through mass media, that is the newspaper, we soon proceeded to know that the bridegroom belonged to Srimanta Sarkar’s family. All my relatives who knew Srimanta Sarkar personally, at once gave their consent to carry forward with the proposal.
The first meeting with Jethu was an awesome interaction to be cherished forever. He blessed me with a very fine pen which I have preserved till today. By blessing me with this pen he made the relationship and respect towards him strong and long lasting. By giving me my due respect, he made his ideologies and beliefs crystal clear which made my respect for him everlasting. In the further course of time, whenever we met at different events, we used to discuss studies, books, writers and of course my Pisimoni who herself was an epitome of knowledge.
Very often, we, Sukanta and I, discuss the contributions of Jethu in this family. I have heard many incidents from Sukanta which makes it clear that Jethu’s contribution is indispensable in his life. At every stage of life Jethu played a very significant role in settling down my father-in-law, my husband and my brothers-in-law, oftentimes sacrificing his own needs and aspirations.
Jethu, as said by Sukanta, is a tough teacher and an extremely disciplined person. His rules and regulations, food habits and maintaining a routine life is something which is admirable and should be followed by everyone. At our home we try to make Titir, our daughter, follow this discipline and routine life which we have learnt from him.
To write about Jethu is a never ending process. I never missed my parental home as I found the same discipline, ideologies and values amongst which I was brought up.
I always feel proud that I belong to Srimanta Sarkar’s family and will always remain blessed and fortunate to be a part of the same.
Love you Jethu, stay healthy and keep on guiding us!
Aparajita Sarkar
